Arturo is a 29-year-old male polar bear currently living in Argentina’s Mendoza Zoo. He is suffering in 40C (104F) heat in an enclosure that has just 20 inches of water for him to swim in and has as a consequence been displaying worrying behavior.
Please sign this petition or at least spread the word in order to have Arturo transferred to a zoo in Canada which has better facilities for an animal that is used to polar conditions.

See, this is the dark side of animal captivity that needs to be stopped.
Polar bears are endangered, and zoos can help preserve the species, but these are absolutely deplorable conditions for this animal. If a zoo chooses to display a species that is not used to local weather conditions, then it becomes that zoo’s moral obligation to provide said species with reasonable accommodations to keep them healthy.
A polar animal being kept in warm climates should be provided with A) a lot more swimming water than this poor creature has, B) temperature regulation on the swimming water (i.e: the water kept at consistent low temperatures), and C) a temperature-regulated arctic-like enclosure to retreat to when it’s too hot (not the entire habitat, necessarily, just a place that the animal can retreat to).
Please sign and share this petition. It’s not guaranteed to get Arturo transferred to a more compatible zoo, but if nothing else it might get the Argentinian zoo to work on fixing these conditions.
